When a visitor lands on your site at 9 pm and has one question, most chat boxes say “leave a message”. UNLOOK answers.
UNLOOK is an AI chat assistant for small business websites. It answers visitors’ questions from the business info you give it (your services, prices, hours and the areas you cover), takes their name and phone number or email, shares your booking link (or, on Chat Plus, books a time right in the chat), and emails you every lead. It answers in your business’s name, and a small line under the chat says it is AI and “Powered by UNLOOK”.
What you get
- Answers from your own information, day or night. If it doesn’t know something, it says so and asks you, instead of guessing.
- Every lead emailed to you with the visitor’s name, phone number or email, and what they asked.
- Every chat saved in your UNLOOK dashboard, word for word, so you can see exactly what was said.
- Bookings: on Chat it shares your booking link; on Chat Plus it offers the times you are free and books one in the chat, checked against your Google Calendar if you connect it.
- No code to paste: install, press Connect, and approve your site in UNLOOK.
Who it is for
Plumbers, heating and air companies, electricians, roofers, salons, clinics, shops, and any other small business with a website and a phone that doesn’t always get answered.
Set up in three steps
- Install and activate the plugin.
- Go to Settings UNLOOK and press Connect UNLOOK.
- Log in to UNLOOK, check it’s your site, and press Connect this site. You come straight back to WordPress, and the chat is on every page.
Your account and cost
The plugin needs an UNLOOK account: UNLOOK is a paid service, with plans from $29 a month and no contract, so you can cancel any time. You can see a demo built from your own website first at https://unlook.in. Your answers, leads, chats and how the chat looks are all managed in your UNLOOK dashboard at app.unlook.in.
Phone calls too
UNLOOK can also answer the phone calls you miss, in your business’s name. That is a separate plan, set up in your UNLOOK account. This plugin adds the website chat.
Your site stays yours
The plugin keeps a single setting: your business’s UNLOOK id (the same public id the chat carries on every page). It stores no passwords or keys, and UNLOOK cannot change your WordPress settings, content or users: the only way the setting is ever written is your own click on Connect in wp-admin. Disconnect (Settings UNLOOK) removes the chat from your site straight away.
External services
This plugin connects your site to UNLOOK, the service it exists for. UNLOOK is run by UNLOOK (https://unlook.in).
- When you press Connect UNLOOK (Settings UNLOOK), your browser goes to https://app.unlook.in/connect/wordpress with your site’s address (its home URL), the address of this settings page, and a one-time check value. Nothing is sent before you press Connect.
- When you come back from UNLOOK, your site sends the one-time code UNLOOK gave you, and your site’s address, to https://app.unlook.in/api/connect/wordpress/exchange. UNLOOK answers with your business’s UNLOOK id, which the plugin stores.
- Once connected, on every page of your site, visitors’ browsers load the chat from https://app.unlook.in (the loader script /loader/v1.js and the chat itself). When a visitor chats, their messages, and any name, phone number or email they choose to type, are sent to UNLOOK so it can answer them and pass the lead to you. The chat keeps a random chat id in the visitor’s browser (local storage) so a conversation carries on after a reload, and remembers for the browser session that the greeting was shown.
- If you pick a Google font for the chat in your UNLOOK dashboard, visitors’ browsers also load that font from Google Fonts (https://fonts.googleapis.com). Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- While you are connecting, UNLOOK’s server asks your site one question, to confirm that your site itself asked to connect: a request to your site’s address with a check value (
?unlook_check=…). Your site answers with a second check value and nothing else. It answers only during a connect you started (for up to 30 minutes).

Credits
The settings page uses the Bricolage Grotesque font (Copyright 2022 The Bricolage Grotesque Project Authors), under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The font and its licence (assets/OFL.txt) are bundled with the plugin; nothing is loaded from a font service.

Only on WordPress.com plans that let you install plugins. Plans that don’t allow plugins don’t allow the chat’s code either.

The plugin adds one small script that loads after your page (deferred); it then fetches the chat from UNLOOK’s servers in the background, so your page shows first.
